Newman Foundation

Newman Foundation of Toronto

The Newman Foundation of Toronto exists to support the work of the Newman Centre Roman Catholic Mission on the downtown campus of the University of Toronto. The Newman Centre's mission is to encourage students to deepen their faith, and to develop and strengthen tomorrow's Catholic leaders. This is accomplished in a variety of ways:

  • Newman's Chaplaincy Outreach to students provides a variety of new and continuing programs, such as faith studies, lectures, retreats and socials.  We also provide a drop-in zone in the house as a space on campus for Catholic students to find community and fellowship on weekdays. Particular groups who meet at Newman include the Newman Catholic Students Club, Catholic Bioethics Students Club, Korean Catholic Students - Legion of Mary, U of T Chinese Catholic Community, Development and Peace, Communion and Liberation and Students for Life to name but a few.  Please visit for information on coming events and programs.
  • The Student Campus Ministry Team plays an important role in the overall campus outreach. As members of the university, who live in community at the Newman Centre, and through their involvement in various ministries and programs, these future catholic leaders witness to the Gospel, while deepening and sharing their personal faith (peer ministry), helping others to grow in the process.
  • Students are provided the opportunity through our Outreach Programs to serve the poor by contributing their time and energy in various community support initiatives: tutoring with the Missionaries of Charity in Parkdale and Pathways to Education in Regent Park; feeding the hungry at St. Francis Table and through Street Patrol; working with the homeless through Out of the Cold; supporting the mentally ill at Our Place Community of Hope; serving the sick and dying at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The Newman Foundation also has a keen interest in maintaining and renewing ties with Newman Alumni; those who have once called the Newman Centre home or have had a connection with the community in years gone by.

New members of the Foundation are always welcome. The annual fee is currently set at $50.00. Just fill out the membership form and mail to the address indicated with your payment. Please click below for a membership form.  Any additional contribution would be very welcome.
