Information For Prosepctive Volunteers:

Outreach
Ministries are an integral part of the Newman Centre at the
University of Toronto. Our parish works in partnership with
seven different volunteer programs (both secular and religious) that serve the most needy
of the Greater Toronto Area.
Newman Centre Volunteers:

of Charity: Tutoring Program
Serve as mentors and academic tutors to High School Students in Regent Park with the innovative Pathways
To Education Program
Enable individuals with mental health illness to integrate into the general population at Our
Place Community of Hope
Prepare and serve meals to the poor in Parkdale at St.
Francis Table
Bring the Eucharist to patients at Mt. Sinai and Princess Maragert Hospitals as
Lay
Pastoral Visitors to the Sick and Dying
Provide food, clothing, and shelter to the marginalized of Toronto during the coldest months of the year through the interfaith Out
of the Cold Program
Knit burial shrouds for still-born births at Mt. Sinai Hospital through the
Tiny
Shroud Ministry
If
you would like volunteer at one of these remarkable ministries, the first step is to schedule
an interview with Peter
Baltutis, the Director of Outreach Ministries, at:
416-979-2468 (ext. 222); or outreach@newmantoronto.com. At the interview,
we will review all aspects of that particular outreach ministry,
specific responsibilities of Newman Centre volunteers, and
answer any questions that potential volunteers may have. The
interviews last approximately 45 minutes and are held at the
Newman Centre.
