Student Campus Minister Responsibilities

Student Campus Ministers are an integral component of the Newman Centre's Campus Ministry Initiative. Under the supervision of the Chaplaincy Coordinator and Executive Director, Student Campus Ministers are first and foremost part of the Newman Centre Residential Community. This Community is rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, striving to hear and live the Word of God in the Tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. As a Student Campus Minister you will:

  • Be available on Sundays to participate in the Liturgical Life of the Centre
  • Assist at daily Mass as server/sacristan - approx. once per week as scheduled
  • Desk Duty - approx. once per week as scheduled
  • Dinner and connected dinner chores - approx. once per week
  • Attend and participate in weekly team meetings and prayer sessions
  • Attend Campus Minister Orientation Retreat at beginning of academic year
  • Participate in at least one Newman Centre program or ministry.
  • Be open to helping whenever special functions or needs arise

Responsibilities Associated with Residency

Living in community requires a sense of understanding and respect for others. Residency guidelines have been developed to facilitate this experience and to ensure that expectations associated with residency are effectively communicated. A copy of the guidelines will be provided upon application. Our reasonable room and board rates include private room, shared or private bath, food and utilities.

Application Requirements

  • Must be a university student and demonstrate a lifestyle consistent with principles of the Catholic faith.
  • Interest and willingness to commit toward becoming a member of the Campus Ministry Team.
    • Being available, flexible, and willing to help in meeting the demands of community life and campus ministry.
    • Demonstrating a sense of generosity in reaching out to help others.
  • Willingness to assume responsibility for duties associated with residence at the Newman Centre.
